The People’s Conference — one of the main constituents of the executive council of Hurriyat Conference — is likely to pull out over former chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s presence at the funeral of the militant commander accused in the assasination of Abdul Gani Lone.
Separatist hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani broke away from the Hurriyat and Sheikh Aziz, imprisoned chief of People’s League and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik — two other members of the executive — are not attending meetings since the Hurriyat split last year.
Sources said PC chairman Sajjad Gani Lone is upset over Umar attending the funeral of Rafiq Ahmad Dar alias Ledri of the Al-Umar Mujahideen, killed by police last week. The party will write0 to Hurriyat chief Maulana Abbas Ansari soon.
The PC’s exit will not only shrink the executive group of seven to three, it may affect the second round of parleys with the Centre in March. ‘‘I would like to steer clear of the results achieved — if there are any, from the Centre-Hurriyat dialogue process,’’ sources quoted him as having said.
