At least two influential tribal bodies of Nagaland, the Ao Senden and Sumi Hoho — representing the Ao and Sumi tribes respectively —have decided to boycott the reception of top NSCN (IM) leaders T. Muivah and Isak Chisi Swu at Dimapur on Tuesday.

While Ao Senden president Bendangmangyang Jamir recently wrote to NSCN (IM) leaders that three senior NSCN (IM) members — allegedly involved in assault on Dimapur-based doctor Maongwati Aier — had sought protection from the group’s leaders, the Sumi Hoho complained that a Sumi cadre of the NSCN (K) was killed by some NSCN (IM) members. The Sumi Hoho said though the NSCN (IM) had owned responsibility for the killing of the Sumi youth (who was member of the NSCN-K) and had promised to punish the guilty, nothing had actually been done.

Muivah and Swu will visit Nagaland for the second time in the last three decades to take stock of ground realities, and to gauge public reaction to the on-going peace process. That all is not well on the home front was evident last week when the NSCN (K) claimed it had gunned down 10 NSCN (IM) cadres in Tamenglong district of Manipur.
