CHENNAI, Jan 9: The Tamil Nadu government is in talks with Dakshin Bharat Energy consortium to build a much larger liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Ennore port area where the consortium has been selected as the developer to build the $1.4 billion LNG terminal-cum-power project.

The consortium, comprising Siemens of Germany, CMS Energy of the US, Grasim Industries of the A.V. Birla group, Unocal Corp. of the US and Woodside Petroleum Ltd of Australia, is to build, own and operate 2.5 mn tonnes of LNG terminal and a 1,886 mw project at Ennore.

Sources said the government is keen that the consortium builds a much larger LNG terminal facility than the one initially proposed as the demand for fuel by fertiliser and petroleum units coming up in Ennore area is expected to soar.
