As the BCCI panel gets set to meet here on Sunday, it emerged that they had six names and two CVs on their list. ‘‘There are five or six names finally that will be discussed, this much I can say’’, BCCI president Ranbir Singh Mahendra told The Sunday Express. ‘‘The rest depends on what we decide at the meeting.”

The two CVs they have are those of Greg Chappell and Dean Jones.

The panel, convened by board secretary SK Nair, includes Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Srinivasan Venkataraghavan and Asian Cricket Council chairman Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Of course, tomorrow’s meeting will be all but a final decision. Whatever name or a set of names that the high-profile panel shortlists will later this month be discussed by the 17-member Working Committee of the BCCI.

Team India might eventually have to wait till July for a final verdict, as India’s next assignment comes not before early August when they tour Sri Lanka for a tri-series meet involving the West Indies.
