I am 50 and have been on a medicine to control my blood pressure levels for the last six months, after a doctor examined me and found my BP shooting up. However, over the last few days, I found that at times, I start sweating and my heart rate starts going up. Is this problem related with BP or a signal for some other major disease?

Dr NP Singh, Professor of Medicine, Maulana Azad Medical College, says:

I f it persists, high blood pressure can cause heart problems and hence it should be kept under check. Your problem may be related to that. You should get an ECG and echocardiography done. Meanwhile, your BP should be kept under control. Regular exercises and weight reduction can help. But remember, menopausal symptoms can also mimic heart disease.
