The Opposition took on the Government during question hour in the Lok Sabha today for what it called ‘‘calculated omissions’’ in the controversial history text books, published by the NCERT.
Hannan Mollah of the CPI(M) cited the non-inclusion of historical facts like Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination by Nathu Ram Godse, claiming that Godse’s allegiance to the RSS ideology had prompted the Government to ‘‘conceal historical facts’’.
‘‘They (BJP) should apologise to the whole nation for such calculated omissions,’’ he said. The Opposition members thumped their desks in his support.
Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi admitted that in one case, Gandhi’s name had been omitted and his Ministry had directed the NCERT to include it.
Roopchand Pal of the CPI(M) exclaimed: ‘‘Let there be a discussion in the House.’’ Raghuvansh Prasad Singh of the RJD and Satyavrat Chaturvedi of the Congress asked the minister not to ‘‘read portions out of context and in isolation to mislead the House’’.
