BAHADURGARH (Patiala), Aug 1: Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh today said the All India Shiromani Akali Dal led by Gurcharan Singh Tohra had no base in the state and would realise its place soon after the Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a party workers’ meeting after opening a party election office for its candidate, Surjit Singh Dhaliwal of Rakhra, he said the AISAD had no policies or programmes and the Sikh Panth would never pardon the persons who betrayed it.
Lashing out at AISAD candidate from Patiala Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, he said Chandumajra had betrayed the Panth and failed to fulfill the promises made to the people. He added that the people will not allow him to betray them again this time. Kanwaljit said the SAD-BJP combine will have a straight contest with the Congress in the state during the ensuing elections.
However, the Congress, he added, was a divided house and the section opposing Sonia Gandhi had left the party and floated a new political party. The Finance Minister said the Congress’ position in Patiala was not good and it was a divided house as a result of which it had failed to announce its candidate.
Addressing party workers, Surjit Singh Rakhra asked the workers and people to elect their representatives keeping in view his or her personality and image in society. He claimed that he joined politics only to work for the welfare of the people and for social reforms.
Ajaib Singh Mukhmailpur, MLA from Ghanaur, said the people of this area had reposed faith in the SAD led by Parkash Singh Badal and ignored other political parties. Jasdev Singh Sandhu, chairman of the Punjab Subordinate Selection Services Board (PSSSB), said Tohra had betrayed the party as well as the people only with an aim to save his position politically.
