SURAT, July 7: The problem caused by unusually high pass percentage in the Secondary School Certificate examinations continues to be a major headache for district education authorities.
Nearly half a dozen schools, a couple of highly reputed ones, threw a spanner in the DEO’s works as they refused to admit students as directed. Students and parents who went to the respective schools were not entertained by the school authorities, who claimed that not a single seat was available.
The DEO had on Tuesday displayed a list at R D Contractor School in Nanpura, where a zonal office had been started, to take care of students who could not secure admissions anywhere. Close to 1000 students were left in the lurch, and found their agonies extended, when the schools where they were supposed to have secured admission slammed the door on them.
While some schools told the admission seekers and their parents that they simply did not have any seats, some said the State government’s education policy vis-a-vis appointment of teachers did not permit them to accommodate any more.
Meanwhile, DEO P N Dave claimed he had sorted out the problem by talking to all the schools who did not abide by his directive earlier. He claimed the school managements had assured him that the students would be admitted within a week.
