The prosecution in the triple Staines murder case told the designated trial court today that Dara Singh, the prime accused, made extra judicial confessions of killing the Staines.
On the second day of prosecution argument, CBI counsel S.K. Mund said Singh confessed before two prosecution witnesses and their statements were available with the Khurda District Court and Sessions Judge M.N. Patnaik.
Following the incident, when he was at large, Singh told Narendra Naik, a prosecution witness, that he had burnt the Staines and on accomplishing the task had tonsured his head, the CBI counsel said. Within 12 hours of the incident on the night of January 22, 1999, Singh had met Debendra Mohanta, another prosecution witness, and told him that he had accomplished the ‘‘job’’.
Mund said these statements, already with the court, have made clear Singh’s confessions to killing the Australian missionary and his two sons. Besides, the judicial confessions of five accused have made clear the prime accused’s planned execution of the murder.
