MUMBAI, Dec 10: LIC’s Sriram Jha (eight points) and Atanu Lahiri (7.5) have moved ahead of the field after nine rounds in the Independence Cup Chess Tournament here today.

Jha defeated IM Sudhakar Babu (Indian Bank) while Lahiri won in just 17 moves against IM Verghese Koshy (ONGC).

In the upsets of the day, Rashmin Pulekar drew with former national champion, Ponnuswamy Konguvel, while GM Dibyendu Barua (Tisco) and Rahul Shetty (Indian Airlines) were likely to be held by their weaker opponents, N Sanjay and Ramkrishna Kashelkar respectively.
