PORT ELIZABETH, March 10: South Africa wrapped up a 259-run win over Pakistan on the fifth day of the third Test match at St George’s Park today to earn a 1-1 share of the series. Pakistan started the final day in a hopeless situation at 120 for seven after being set 394 runs to win.
South Africa needed just 26 minutes and 35 balls to complete their win as Pakistan were all out for 134.
Fast bowler Allan Donald took a wicket in each of his first two overs to finish with four wickets for 27 runs before Fanie De Villiers, in his last Test match, bowled Shoaib Akhtar to claim the last wicket.
Donald had match figures of eight for 74 and De Villiers took eight for 48.Azhar Mahmood, who was named Man-of-the-Series after scoring 327 runs at an average of 65.40 with two centuries, was ninth out after making a defiant 41.
Man-of-the-Match, wicketkeeper Mark Boucher, claimed his ninth victim of the match when Waqar Younis was caught behind off Donald’s second ball of the day, equalling the South African recordheld by recently-retired Dave Richardson, who set the mark against India at the same ground in 1992-93.
