A singer was booked for making derogatory remarks about Sant Ramdas Swami and Mahatma Gandhi at a BSP rally held in Nashik on Wednesday. The singer from Sillod (Aurangabad), Rahul Haribhau Avnikar, was singing songs before Mayawati arrived at the Golf Club grounds — the rally venue.

Avnikar mocked Hindutva brigade and Brahmins, and questioned certain aspects concerning Ramdas Swami’s life. He also said that the Brahmins had conspired to manipulate historical documents to show that the swami was Shivaji’s guru. He also went on to make adverse remarks against Mahatma Gandhi. Sarkarwada police have filed a case against Avnikar, on a complaint by one Manoj Shankar Shirsat of the Swami Samarth Mandir of Nashik.
