Chennai, January 20: After the exciting Berlin clash between Russians Garry Kasparov and Vladimir Kramnik ended in a draw in 46 moves, the lead passed on to Alexie Shirov of Spain in the Corus Super category chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee on Thursday. Shirov shot into lead with four points after five rounds and meets Dutch GM Loek van Wely in the sith round on Saturday.
Shirov played an attacking game against Jan Timman and sacrificed two pawns to get into a knight versus bishop ending. He won back the pawns and got the point after 65 moves.
Anand will meet Vladimir Kramnik in a clash of champions on Saturday after the rest day.
Alexander Morozevich fought back after his fourth round loss to Adams and moved up to 3.5 points after his 55-move victory over Sergei Tiviakov of Russia in Sicilian Defence.

HARI LEADS: IM Pendyala Harikrishna of India emerged joint leader with 2.5 points after the third round in Group B competition. Leaders Boris Gulko and Friso Nijboer had played out adraw between themselves to stay in front. Harikrishna outwitted IM Erik Hoeksema of the Netherlands in an irregular Queens Indian Defence.
In the middlegame, Hoeksema erred by opting for passive manoeuvres and allowed Harikrishna to obtain a passed pawn on the Kingside. Harikrishna sacrificed an exchange and got two pawns in return to win comfortably.
