Activists of ruling Samajwadi Party today attacked a shopping mall owned by a son of former prime minister V P Singh alleging that it was constructed on an illegally acquired piece of land.
The Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha activists gathered in front of the Atlantis Complex, owned by Ajey Singh, son of V P Singh, and shouted slogans alleging that the structure was illegally constructed and that it was built with the former premier’s money.
The activists carried placards flaying him for carrying out a pro-peasant struggle in Dadri on one hand and erecting a swanky shopping mall here on the other.
“Initially, nobody took a serious note of the gathering which was well outside the mall’s premises. But soon afterwards, the crowd barged inside the market complex and began pelting stones and broke a few window panes and vandalised the furniture of a few shops,” Ajey Singh’s chartered accountant Ashish Chopra said here.
However, within a few minutes police arrived on the spot and the rampaging mob was chased away, Chopra said the police arrived well in time it was not before the complex suffered damage “to the tune of Rs 50,000 by the most conservative estimates’’.
Chopra said a FIR would be lodged in connection.
