MARGAO, March 15: Nigerian Omolaja Olalekan’s penalty conversion in the second half helped Salgaocar boost their title hopes and further push Churchill Brothers to the brink of relegation in the Philips National Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.

The all important goal was scored in the 50th minute. Referee Ravi Shankar awarded Salgaocar the spot kick after Churchill’s Suramani Singh pulled down Satish Kumar inside the box when he was about to score off a lob from Francis Coelho.

The Nigerian converted the opportunity to take his individual tally to five goals. Salgaocar now have 29 points from 17 matches and are at the second position behind Calcutta’s Mohun Bagan (29 points from 15 matches) due to inferior goal difference. Salgaocar have to win the last match against JCT.
