HAMIRPUR, Nov 17: Nearly one lakh employees working in various rural banks will observe a one-day strike all over India on January 11 next, All India Gramin Bank Workers Association president D. C. Sharma said here today.
He said that there were 14,539 branches of 196 regional gramin banks in the country and the Central government was not implementing the recommendations of the sixth pay agreement with regards to the gramin banks.
He demanded that all gramin banks be brought under the banner of Indian National Gramin Bank as suggested by the permanent finance committee of Parliament.
Moreover, such recommendations had also been made by the Reserve Bank of India, he added. He gave a call to the employees of these banks throughout India to press upon their leaders to accept their demands forthwith.
Sharma said that if their demands were not accepted, the bank employees would go on an indefinite strike all over India from February 1 next.
