Former World Cup striker Romario said Thursday that he considers himself to be Brazil’s most important player since the golden era of the 1970s.

“This will probably cause another controversy and I’ll probably get a good hiding for saying it, but, yes I consider myself (to be the best),” he told newspersons during a press conference here on Thursday.

Romario, still playing for first division Fluminense at the age of 38, announced that he would reunite Brazil’s 1994 World Cup winning team including strike partner Bebeto for a match in Los Angeles on November 10 to mark his international farewell.
