Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has commissioned studies to evaluate capacity expansion of its existing 27 million tonne refinery at Jamnagar, by way of debottlenecking. The scope for debottlenecking is to the extent of 3-5 million tonne taking the total refining capacity to 30-32 million tonne. Sources said the aim is to achieve maximum capacity enhancement at minimum cost.
The debottlenecking exercise would involve replacement and modification of certain equipment, resulting in significant increase in output. An RIL spokesperson, however, refused to comment on the development. The debottlenecking cost could not be ascertained.
