After Nagappa’s abduction, it’s now the turn of the hunt for emissaries to take centrestage. While in matinee idol Rajkumar’s case, deputing an emissary wasn’t difficult, Nakkeeran Gopal being a unanimous choice, this time round Karnataka has a problem of plenty.

While three lawyers were already in the fray to play official emissary to Veerappan, a name that has joined the list is that of Pazhanisamy, the brother of Kolathur Mani who was active behind the scenes during Rajkumar’s abduction.

Mani himself is in a Karnataka jail, having been arrested on March 8 on the charge of supplying explosives to Veerappan. Sources said the desperate Krishna government could release him on bail.

There are others who want the job, like Mysore-based advocates K.R. Subbu Krishna and Venugopal from Mysore, apart from the Bangalore-based lawyer Amruthesh.

Of them, Krishna — who had successfully fought cases against suspected Veerappan followers arrested by the STF — is leading the race.

Venugopal has met Chief Minister Krishna, expressing his willingness to negotiate. He has also aired a message on Coimbatore AIR to establish contact with Veerappan.
