Congress today said that it was not averse to coalitions but stressed that the party was waiting for the ‘‘appropriate time’’ for taking a view.
Congress spokesperson Jaipal Reddy said, ‘‘We had made our stand clear at the Banglore session that Congress does not rule out pre-election or post-election alliances.’’
‘‘Our Panchmarhi resolution has been misunderstood. But that position has been clarified in Bangalore that we are not agaisnt coalitions. We are in coalition in Bihar, Kerala, Maharasthra and Jammu and Kashmir,’’ Reddy said.
Senior Congress leader Arjun Singh had yesterday sought that the party take a stand on coalitions in the next few months. On an early decision on coalitions, Reddy said, ‘‘Timing is a matter of strategy. The party will take a view on the issue at an appropriate time’’.
Singh had also criticised the increasing groupism in the party yesterday. Reddy said that the party considers these ‘‘as the personal opinion of the leader.’’
‘‘We are not aware of the existence of any groups in the party at the national level,’’ Reddy said.
