Suresh Nalawade has never been so relieved. In his decade-long service, rarely has he seen a case so complicated. ‘‘We had to rely on relatives, Anand brothers, when we first started. Later we found they were giving false information.’’
Nalawade was the Investigating Officer in the Rajvans case which concluded on Wednesday with life sentences for four accused, including Anand brothers. He considers this his most successful case. The odds were stacked against police. To begin with, there were no eye-witnesses. The case involved prominent personalities and getting witnesses against celebrities is difficult.
Finding the diaries and letters gave them evidence. ‘‘Of course, it was Suresh Armugham who turned it around for us. I am happy that the woman got some justice after all these years,’’ he says.
