NEW DELHI, August 5: Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Prem Kumar has summoned the doctor who conducted the postmortem on biscuit king Rajan Pillai. Dr L.T. Ramani has to submit the report in the court on Thursday.
The CMM has also directed that the inquest report from the office of the Punjabi Bagh Sub Divisional Magistrate also be produced, along with Pillai’s medical records from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Pillai on the night of July 3-4, 1995. He died at DDU Hospital on July 7 after being allegedly beaten up by the Tihar jail staff and mistreated by the jail doctors. His wife Nina Pillai filed a case against jail superintendent A.K. Singla, assistant superintendent Bacha Maji, deputy superintendent Mahavir Singh and medical officers Dr Hir Lal and Dr Venkata Subbiah in 1996.
The CMM has discharged witness P. Rama Kutty from giving evidence. Kutty, presently at Tihar, was one of the main witnesses in the case. Nina Pillai’s counsel informed the court that Kutty said his life was being threatened by the jail authorities.
