NEW DELHI, January 9: Lieutenant-Governor Tejinder Khanna today announced new measures to track down the culprits behind the blasts. These decisions were taken in a review meeting held by the Lt. Governor with senior police officers and bureaucrats. Five thousand Civil Defence wardens will be called to assist the police in general surveillance of sensitive areas adjoining cinema halls, bus terminals, railway stations and markets. They will help police in spotting out persons indulging in suspicious activities.

Also, more plain clothes men will be deployed in such areas for preventive surveillance.Area Sub-Divisional Magistrates will exercise general coordination over the deployment of Civil Defence Wardens, in close association with the area police officers and Divisional Civil Defence Wardens.

Tomorrow, by the way of closer police-people interaction, meetings will be held in all the districts by the DCPs and area MLAs, municipal corporators and others to elicit their suggestions about prevention of such incidents.

Similar meetings will be held tomorrow in the areas of police stations affected by bomb blasts since 1997 to be convened by the area ACP. Moroever, there will be similar meetings every month in future.

An appeal has been made to all citizens to exercise extra degree of alertness and report any untoward activity of any unidentified object to the police control rooms for timely preventive action. Traders’ associations are being advised to deploy their own security personnel to assist in spotting any mischief makers.
