Ana Ivanovic routed Patty Schnyder 6-1,6-2 in the final of the Generali Ladies Sunday to win her first WTA Tour title in two years. She won her last title at the same event in 2008 after taking the French Open title. Ivanovic,now ranked No. 29,played her first final in 19 months. Meanwhile,Tamarine Tanasugarn beat Kimiko Date-Krumm 7-5,6-7 (4),6-1 in the Japan Women’s Open final on Sunday,spoiling the 40-year-old Japanese player’s bid to become the oldest WTA Tour singles winner.

FIFA to look into vote sting

FIFA on Sunday said it will examine evidence from a British newspaper alleging that two FIFA executive committee members offered to sell their votes in World Cup bidding. The Sunday Times filmed Amos Adamu of Nigeria and Oceania Football Confederation president Reynald Temarii of Tahiti asking for money to fund projects. The reporters were posing as lobbyists for a consortium of American companies who wanted to help bring the World Cup back to the United States by winning December’s vote. No money changed hands.

Harrington ends drought

Padraig Harrington won the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia on Sunday,securing his first victory in two years. The three-time major champion finished at 3-under 69 with an overall 20-under 268 at the US$1.25 million Asia Tour event. “It was my week to win,”said Harrington,part of Europe’s Ryder Cup winning team,who was three shots clear of Noh Seung-yul of Korea. Harrington last won in 2008 at the PGA Championship.

Stoner beats champ Lorenzo

Australia’s Casey Stoner beat newly crowned world champion Jorge Lorenzo of Spain by almost nine seconds on Sunday to claim his fourth straight Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. Stoner,who turned 25 on Saturday,rode his Ducati to an 8.598 second win over Yamaha’s Lorenzo,while Italy’s seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi,also on a Yamaha,finished third. “When I won it twice in a row and was going for the third,nobody was really expecting it but of course they were going to enjoy it,” Stoner said. “But this year everybody seemed to really expect it and they weren’t going to take any other result.”

Jeev slips in Fry’s.com Open

Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh turned in an even-par 71 to slip nine places to tied 43rd after the third and penultimate round of the USD 5,000,000 Frys.com Open in San Martin,USA. Jeev has a three-day total of three-under 210. A 10th tee starter,Jeev stumbled to a bogey on the 11th hole but made amends with a birdie on the 18th to make the turn even-par. Overnight leader American Rocco Mediate held on to his three-stroke lead after returning a 67 that took his overall total to 17-under 196. The second spot was taken by Mediate’s compatriot Bo Van Pelt,who carded a six-under 65.
