Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday arrived here on his second visit to the US in less than a week to convey his country’s concerns on certain conditions linked to the USD 7.5 billion aid.

During his stay here,Qureshi will meet with key leaders at the US Congress who drafted the package and other officials concerned.

He is also likely to meet Richard Holbrokke, the Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, officials said.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad yesterday before his departure,Qureshi said Pakistan’s interests will be protected at all costs as the country’s democratic government will not compromise on sovereignty.

He said he would share with the US administration Pakistan’s concerns on the aid bill that will provide 1.5 billion dollars annually for the next five years.

“I will speak for the people of Pakistan and convey their feelings to the American leadership,” he had said.

Qureshi’s unscheduled visit comes in the wake of Pakistan’s military commanders expressing concern over clauses in the aid bill that they said could affect national security.
