Vowing to thwart attempts to draft a new constitution without taking the Maoists on board,former Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda has threatened a ‘people’s revolution’ if his party was sidelined at the national stage.
The threat came a day after the Maoist chief joined leaders of 18 other political parties in signing a commitment for not launching agitations and strikes to ensure a peaceful environment for the promotion of tourism.
Blaming the ruling alliance for trying to impose feudal rule under the guidance of “foreign elements” by isolating the Maoists,Prachanda warned of a final revolt against forces trying to downplay people’s mandate.
Attempts to draft a new constitution by sidelining the Maoists would be thwarted,he said,adding the country needs a “pro-poor constitution”.
Prachanda made these remarks yesterday while inaugurating the martyrs’ memorial gate built by Maoist cadres in Damauli of western Nepal.
On Thursday,Prachanda along with other top leaders,had signed a paper to halt any type of agitation,strike or shut down to make Nepal Tourism Year 2011 which aims to bring in one million tourists a success.
Prachanda also accused India of launching a full-scale campaign against Maoist leadership,the Kathmandu Post said.
