Pakistani authorities have arrested 13 Indian fishermen and seized three boats they were travelling in for allegedly entering the countrys territorial waters without permission.
A senior official of the Maritime Security Agency today said the arrests were made yesterday after the Indian fishermen were found fishing illegally 55 nautical miles inside Pakistani territory.
The Indian fishermen have been handed over to the police for further proceedings, MSA spokesman Lieutenant Commander Shakeel Ahmed Khan said. The arrested fishermen were sent to judicial custody today.
We have to establish their identity and intent of coming into our territorial waters, he said.
India and Pakistan have arrested several fishermen in the past on charges of violating each others maritime boundary.
