Rajasthan Cricket Association president Sanjay Dixit was removed from his post on Sunday after a no-confidence motion was passed against him by the Lalit Modi-backed faction at the Annual General Meeting.
Modi had lost to Dixit in the RCA elections earlier this year. The new RCA office-bearers had withdrawn their notice for elections to the vacant secretarys post and Dixit had even called off the AGM. However, the rival group went on with the meeting, citing that the notice for AGM,once served, cannot be withdrawn.
Former secretary Subhash Joshi said the no-confidence motion brought in by the president of Sri Ganganagar District Association,Mehmood Abdi, was accepted by the 20-member house. Since the majority did not have confidence in Sanjay Dixit,he was removed from the presidents post and fresh elections would be held on October 14 under the supervision of former Supreme Court Justice RS Lahoti, Joshi said.
Dixit, however, said the move was unconstitutional. There is no provision of a no confidence motion in the Sports Act of the state or in the constitution of RCA, he said.
