Five uncapped Indian cricket players were suspended with immediate effect pending an inquiry as the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) cracked the whip in the wake of a television sting operation which claimed to have exposed corruption in the IPL.
Mohnish Mishra,Shalabh Srivastava,T P Sudhindra,Amit Yadav and Abhinav Bali were suspended after a tele-conference of top BCCI officials and members of the IPL Governing Council.
The BCCI decided to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the incident by Ravi Sawani,the former chief of the International Cricket Councils Anti-Corruption Unit who is now heading the BCCIs Anti-Corruption Unit.
IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said: We will await the preliminary inquiry and proper action will be taken after that.
Two domestic first-class players,part of IPL teams,had been captured on camera agreeing to bowl no-balls and spot-fix matches. India TVs sting operation also showed two other domestic players agreeing for a transfer to another team when offered a higher fee by the undercover reporters.
The IPLs Governing Council is understood to have scrutinised the tapes before suspending the players. Four of the five players suspended had played in the rebel Indian Cricket League.
