Reacting to the arrest of his son,S Sreesanth,in the spot-fixing case, father Santhakumaran Nair initially alleged a conspiracy theory involving India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh, but retracted those charges soon after the Delhi police revealed the details and offered an apology.
Sreesanths brother-in law,Madhu Balakrishnan, said that the controversy was to defame the fast bowler. Harbhajan Singh and Dhoni have this enmity towards Sreesanth after he had tweeted about the issues with Dhoni, said Balakrishnan, before adding,Sreesanth was against spot-fixing.
He has been longing to return to the Indian team. The time was most suitable for his return as the chances for an re-entry were high. He would not deliberately get involved in such an act when he wanted to return to the Indian team, said other family members.
Quick apology
However, soon after Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar addressed the media in the afternoon armed with video evidence the family retracted their allegations against Dhoni and Harbhajan. Nair said he had considered the possibility of a conspiracy as an instant reaction to the arrest of his son.
In the past,Sreesanth had problems with Dhoni and Harbhajan. Hence, that was my first reaction. I wish to withdraw those comments and tender my apology, an emotional Nair said.
