After Gayle,Chanderpaul draws WI board’s ire

Jamaica: After summoning opener Chris Gayle to a meeting with its top brass,the West Indies Cricket Board has now sought an explanation from the veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul over his remarks in a recent interview. The WICB said it was concerned about Chanderpaul’s participation in an interview last month in which he made ill-advised comments on matters relating to West Indies cricket,while being a centrally contracted player. Chanderpaul had,in the interview,blamed the excessive interference by the team management for the dip in his form.

London: Legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan termed Sri Lanka’s humiliating innings-defeat against England in the first Test at Cardiff as “worst-ever performance.” When questioned whether he would respond to an SOS call by country’s cricket board as team lacks quality bowling attack,the answer was an emphatic “No”. Murali will be playing for Gloucestershire in the Twenty20 championship for the next two seasons.

Afridi may play in Big Bash after Lanka league snub

Melbourne: Despite the PCB revoking Shahid Afridi’s NOC barring him from playing in the foreign leagues,Cricket Australia officials have expressed their desire to rope in the flamboyant all-rounder for this year’s Big Bash Twenty20 tournament. Afridi suffered a setback when English county Hampshire as well as Sri Lanka Cricket said they would not play the all-rounder in their respective Twenty20 leagues after PCB revoked the requisite NOC.
