US drones today targeted a suspected militant position in the lawless North Waziristan tribal region in northwest Pakistan, killing four suspected Taliban militants, officials said.
The CIA-operated drones fired six missiles at the suspected militant hideout near Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan Agency, killing four and injuring several others.
However, the identities of those killed could not be immediately ascertained.
Today’s incident is the third such attack by US drones in the last 24 hours.
Six suspected militants were killed yesterday when US drones targeted their vehicles in the same area, hours after another group of rebels escaped unharmed during a missile strike by an unmanned spy plane.
Over 80 suspected militants have been killed in drone strikes since the beginning of the year.
After a brief lull in missile strikes following the arrest of CIA contractor Raymond Davis in Lahore on January 27,the US has again stepped up the attacks in recent days.
Davis was arrested after he shot and killed two armed men in Lahore.
