Nobody would have grudged the title ‘His Excellency’ as it is, but now Brian Lara has acquired this status more formally, being appointed as the ‘sports ambassador’ for his country.
At a welcome ceremony at Port-of-Spain airport yesterday, Prime Minister of Trinidad Patrick Manning made this announcement amidst bands playing steel drums and Calypso music. With this ambassadorship, Lara gets a diplomatic passport and can represent his island country Trinidad at any international sports event.
