VADODARA, July 7: A prayer march has been organised by the staff and students of the M S University on Friday to boost patriotic spirit and solidarity. After the march, family members of jawans from the city who are at the Kargil front will be honoured.
Students and faculty members from all the faculties will assemble at the university pavilion at 9 am for the march. Addressing reporters on Wednesday, MSU Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane said, “Ours will be the first university in the state to organise such a march, and students will be a part of it.”
Kane said that the unique part of this march would be that both Major General M C Sebastin and Air Commodore Raj Kumar would address the gathering. “All our staff members, both teaching and non-teaching, have agreed to contribute a day’s salary to the Kargil soldier’s welfare fund,” said Kane. He added that the university as a family would contribute an amount of Rs 15 lakh.
He added that even the student union had decided to contribute to the fund. “Since no activities had been held by the students union, the union leaders have also decided to donate that amount for this fund,” said Kane.
He added that the students have also demanded that a part of the development fee which was being collected from every student be given for this cause. The programme would be very simple and would begin with a Vandemataram and conclude with blowing of bugle by NCC cadets by paying homage to the martyrs, said Kane.
Kane added that even alumni were expected to participate in the march. He appealed to former senate and syndicate members to join the march and add their efforts to the cause for which the university staff is striving.
