PUNE, AUG 29: Over 50,000 jawans and government officials posted outside Pune district will be allowed to avail of the postal ballot to exercise their franchise during the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Among these 50,000 voters are 3,859 defence personnel and 42,772 State Government officials who will be assigned various polling stations during the elections. The district administration geared up to make arrangements for the postal ballot immediately after the deadline for withdrawing the nominations for the three Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies was over last evening.

Special ballot papers, which will be used for the postal ballot in seven districts of Maharashtra including Pune, are being printed at the Government Press at Yerawada here.

The ballot papers for the defence personnel would be sent by post by Saturday evening while those for the others will be sent later, District Election Officer Yuvraj Poman told The Indian Express here today.

Poman said the ballotpapers for defence personnel will be posted earlier as they are posted in remote areas. A distribution plan of the remaining postal ballot papers has also been prepared to ensure that the voters would receive them atleast three days prior to the voting, he added.

As per the records available with the district collectorate officials, the names of the highest number of 1,959 defence personnel were listed in the electoral rolls of the Khed Lok Sabha constituency. As per the amended electoral rolls, there were 10,70,955 voters in the Parliamentary constituency.

Out of the 14,62,248 voters whose names were listed in the electoral rolls of Baramati Parliamentary constituency, 1,354 were defence personnel. A total of 546 defence personnel were enlisted in the electoral rolls for Pune Lok Sabha constituency. There were 14,62,284 names in the voter’s list for the Pune Lok Sabha constituency.
