Swaran Singh discusses the repercussions of partition in India Encircled
The freedom struggle of a country is always a landmark that is talked about for ages. In India itself it is alive, on celluloid, in people’s mind and in the written word. Adding yet another thought to the same is Sangram Singh with his book India Encircled, and the similarities with his name is not only reason that he is attached to the issue. “Those times have been our recent past, in a way the embers have still not died. So in my first book I have talked about what I have found out through my research,” he tells. And we get to read his opinion on how partition could have been avoided and how leaders like Nehru failed in handling the partition, “due to their half-hearted attempts.”
“Some historians opine that coming of the Mughals put the clock back on India’s modernization. This is far from the truth. It was actually the Europeans who copied our methods of agriculture and industry. After gaining territorial control they also sowed seeds of dissension in our people, “ the book goes on to tell. There are twelve chapters that discuss issues like Communal Divide, Reservation on Caste Basis, Scams, Views of RSS Ideologues, Views of Ullemahs, Healing Touch for Kashmiri Pandits and Appeal to His Holiness the Pope.
“Till date we are facing the repercussions, the governments have failed to take care of what followed. I hope the future holds better,” he signs off.
