PMO has not done anything wrong in Baalu issue: Cong

Cong says the PMO has done what is usually done in each and every issue referred by an MP or a Minister.

.

The Congress described as “normal practice” the role of the Prime Minister’s Office in the T R Baalu issue, saying it usually referred letters from MPs, Ministers or dignitaries to the concerned authority for appropriate action.

“The PMO has done what is usually done in each and every issue referred by an MP or a Minister or some other dignitary.

It is usually referred to the concerned authority by the PMO for necessary, legal or proper action,” AICC spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said in New Delhi.

“So we don’t think the PMO has done anything wrong in this regard. This is the normal practice of PMO,” he said.

Asked whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would make a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the issue, Ahmed said, “It depends upon the Presiding Officers of the House and the Government that who on behalf of the Government responds on certain matters.”

On Baalu, who is Surface Transport and Shipping Minister and a member of UPA ally DMK, reportedly saying he did not write any letter to the PMO after having “confessed” in the House, Ahmed said, “It is very clear that Mr Baalu has made this statement in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion. We don’t have to brief or comment on the proceedings of the House.”
