NEW DELHI, November 3: The Centre would come out with a notification within a month banning use of coloured plastic bags — recycled from garbage — for carrying food items, the Delhi High Court was told today.
Standing counsel for the Centre H.S. Phoolka told Justices R C Lahoti and C K Mahajan that "the notification is under process and will come out within a month".
Phoolka said "the recycled plastic bags would not be allowed to be used for ready-to-eat food" and that the notification would specify a standard for manufacture of coloured bags. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Dr B.L. Wadhera seeking a ban on use of plastic bags.
