LUCKNOW, APRIL 2: Pakistani militant Mohd Varis, arrested yesterday in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, was involved in a bomb blast incident in Agra ahead of US President Bill Clinton’s visit to the city.

Varis, who lately snapped ties with Lashkar-e-Toiba, and his accomplices were involved in the bomb blast in Agra, police said. Four hand grenades and some pistols besides vital documents and a diary containing names and telephone numbers of some people in India and Pakistan were seized from him, police said.

Varis, who belonged to Gujranwala in Pakistan, sneaked into India last year with sophisticated weapons, fake currency and RDX to carry out subversive activities in western UP. He told police during interrogation that a Pakistani agent who had accompanied him to India had gone back to Pakistan.

Varis was hiding in a house in village Jola in Muzaffarnagar for the past two months, police said, adding the house owner had also been arrested.
