SYDNEY, SEPTEMBER 16: In a lacklustre stickplay, former champion Pakistan muffed chances galore and paid the price of losing a point as they were held to a 2-2 draw by unfancied Canada in the Pool `A’ of the 27th Olympics here on Saturday.
Displaying fast and attacking game, Korea held fancied and Atlanta Olympics silver medallist Spain to a 1-1 draw and snatched a valuable point in a Pool `B’ encounter. However, defending champion Holland survived a scare and managed to subdue Britain 4-2 while Germany waged a grim struggle to down Malaysia 1-0.
It was not a good start by Pakistan as they just could not put their act together. The Pakistanis dominated the proceedings by earning as many as 10 penalty corners but their highly acclaimed expert Suhail Abbas could convert only one.pThe Canadians played according to a plan and made some incisive attacks which caught Pakistan defence offguard.
All the goals came in the first half with Canada taking the lead twice but failed to capitalise.Pakistanis failed to mark the rival players and were rather too self-confident against Canada.
