Tourism is the latest buzzword in Orissa. Following a government invitation, 11 tour operators from Canada visited different tourist spots in the state, including Puri, Konark and Chilka. Now, it’s time for business.

Tourism Minister S N Patro, who had hosted a dinner for the Canadian tour operators on Saturday, told The Indian Express that the objective is to attract tourists from Canada through these travel agents.

‘‘If these tour operators are satisfied with the facilities available here, they will work like tourism ambassadors for the state. They will facilitate packaged tours,’’ he said.

The tourism department has tied up with Croney Travels, a travel agency of international repute, to prepare a tourist route map and promote the state globally, Patro said, adding, the advertisement cost will be shared on a 50:50 basis.

The ad campaign will focus on tribal tourism, beach tourism, golden triangle, Buddhist circuit and the KBK region.

While the tourism department has also roped in Meena Travels, a Delhi-based firm which has branches in Russia, road shows are also being organised — both inside and outside the country. A road show was recently organised in Moscow.
