NAGPUR, February 13: Shantilal Kothari, Director of the Academy of Nutrition Improvement, began his indefinite hunger strike here on Thursday as the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare failed to hold the scientific meeting on AIDS despite promising to do so.
The secretary of the department had assured Kothari that he would hold a scientific meeting by January 25 in the presence of academy members to discuss whether HIV causes AIDS and if a condom guarantees safe sex.
