An Indian woman nurse, who came to England three months ago, was allegedly brutally hammered to death by her husband in Peterborough. Chitradevi Chandran, 31, was attacked with a claw hammer in her house allegedly by her husband.

She was taken to the Peterborough District Hospital with serious head injuries after neighbours came to her rescue hearing screams on Saturday morning.

Later, she was shifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where she died Monday due to severe head injuries, according to post-mortem reports.

The victim’s 56-year-old mother, who also suffered serious head injury during the incident, remains in a stable condition in hospital after undergoing major surgery, police said.

Chandran’s husband, Anburaj Arjunan, 31, charged with attempted murder of Chandran and her mother, appeared in the Cambridge Crown Court on Monday. He will again appear in court on October 31.

“Chitra will be sadly missed by her family and friends after being taken from them in unforeseen circumstances”, said Chandran’s brother, who flew from India after his sister’s death.

“We would like to thank all of those people and friends who have offered and given their help and support during this tragic time,” he added.
