PUNE, Feb 21: After playing the eventful innings as the Chief Election Commissioner of India, T N Seshan will now be seen holding some local “session with Seshan” in Pune as he plans to expand the focus of his action on Pune also.

Seshan has accepted to head and launch an apolitical citizens organisation named Nirdhar in the city which will have several voluntary organisations and individuals sharing common platform to establish, enforce and educate the public on the citizen’s charter of rights and responsibilities.

In a message faxed to this newspaper Seshan said,“I am honoured to have been asked to head this forum, which has the support of many socially pro-active persons and institutions.”

Pune has always been a leader in social and educational reforms, this is why I have decided to begin my campaign in this city,” said Seshan adding that he would shortly address a public meeting in the city as a formal launch of the forum.

When contacted, the associated persons with the body which is being duly registered said that the ultimate goal of the forum would be to increase efficiency, transparency, accountability and improve the quality of life and society.

The draft of the constitution has been jointly put together. It shall be totally non-violent, non-political with a view to working with the establishment rather than against it, they said adding that citizen’s priority issues including environment, emission and fairness will be taken by the forum.

The forum will also launch a membership enrollment drive inviting common citizens to become its members and participate in its activities.
