BHUBANESWAR, JULY 29: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) alliance almost closed the door on negotiation with the Janata Dal faction led by Sharad Yadav, by announcing that it will not enter into a seat-sharing arrangement with any political party or group directly or indirectly through the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the coordination committee meeting of the BJP and BJD held at the Naveen Nivas here on Thursday. BJD president Naveen Patnaik presided over the meeting.

The coordination committee reaffirmed its earlier stand to fight the ensuing Lok Sabha polls jointly to defeat the Congress. The committee expressed confidence that the performance of the alliance in the ensuing elections will be better than last time.

The meeting decided to form a joint committee to chalk out the campaign modalities of the alliance and oversee the campaigning during the Parliament elections.

The committee which met for two and a half hours, reviewed the position of the alliance partners in all the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of the State. It felt that in some areas, there are local problems among the partners due to lack of communication. The issue of candidate for the Deogarh Lok Sabha seat represented by Union Minister Dr Debendra Pradhan cropped up at the meeting.

But both the parties agreed to take care of any such problems to strengthen the alliance further at all levels. It was decided that if necessary, both the parties will depute State functionaries to sort out the problems mutually. Instructions were sent to functionaries and cadres of both the parties at all levels to strengthen the alliance by way of mutual discussion and coordination.
