Agriculture Minister Ajit Singh on Monday said there is no need to halt the country’s foodgrain exports in the wake of drought in various parts of the country.
He said central teams will soon be visiting the states to make an assessment of the demands placed before the centre as “part of funds disbursed under the central relief fund (CRF) are not being used by states for purposes which fall under its ambit. There is no reason to stop exports of foodgrains as the country has sufficient stocks,” he said on sidelines of International Conference on Water Resources. India exports around 4 lakh tonnes of rice and 2-3 lakh tonnes of wheat every month which are sold to exporters by Government at rates, competitive in world market.
