J-K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said there was no need for an immediate ceasefire in the state even though situation between India and Pakistan has improved.

‘‘The atmosphere is changing for good. Pakistan has responded very positively to the Prime Minister’s peace initiative. Being a gradual and comprehensive process, it will also be a time-consuming exercise,’’ Mufti told newsmen on the reopening of the Durbar offices here. Mufti said the Kashmir issue cannot be solved in one go. ‘‘The leaders of the two countries do not have magic wands in their hands with which they can bring about an overnight change,’’ he said.

He reiterated that the people of J-K have been the worst sufferers in the confrontation between the two countries. Mufti described the Prime Minister’s willingness to solve all internal and external issues through dialogue as vindication of his government’s stand. He said the PDP, Congress, CPI(M) and Panthers Party have been advocating dialogue. He added that no compromise will be made on security.
