NEW DELHI, May 28: India’s Army Chief General V P Malik today accused Pakistan of launching a “disinformation campaign” about a pre-dawn attack on its nuclear facilities and said the country had neither mobilised its forces nor had any plans for carrying out such an attack.

“They (Pakistan) wanted to carry out nuclear tests and they were trying to find an excuse to justify their action by raising a hue and cry over a possible attack,” General Malik told a group of senior editors at a briefing, minutes before news trickled in about the nuclear tests. He said India was in fact aware of “some mobilisation” of troops being carried out from across the border.
