A nine-year-old belonging to a minority community was raped and killed by an unidentified man yesterday.
Her body was recovered from a tank in a building under construction near a graveyard in the town last night. Jhabua Collector A.K. Bhatt said the post-mortem revealed the girl had been raped before death.
The girl went missing during a power failure in the town during Muharram feast yesterday in which over 200 people had taken part, Jhabua SP Umesh Joga said. Late in the night, her body was recovered from a tank in a half-complete building near a graveyard under mysterious circumstances, he said.
No injury marks were found on her body. Police have rounded up a few suspects belonging to the same community in this regard and further investigations are on.
Police were also deployed in the area to monitor and prevent the situation from flaring up, the collector added.
