NHRC team in Bharatpur, to probe Gujjar firing

The Commission has ordered the inquiry following a complaint filed by Delhi High Court lawyer Anurag Kasana.

A seven-member team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) arrived in Bharatpur on Friday to investigate circumstances leading to police firing on agitating Gujjars at Pilupura and Sikandra on May 23 and 24 that claimed 38 lives.

The Commission has ordered the inquiry following a complaint filed by Delhi High Court lawyer Anurag Kasana, team leader Mukesh Singh said.

The NHRC has also sent a notice to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on the matter seeking her reply, Singh said.
